In Flux

Today in the forums, Grimer points us to Kinetica's next exhibition, In Flux, featuring 8 international artists. Interestingly, Steorn is sponsoring the event:

So far, this is the closest thing to news this September.

Well if Steorn are sponsoring the event, it's bound to fail.

If we assume that Sean is telling the truth about "no new investment" in the last year (now, now settle down, stop laughing), then the established burn rate for the company suggests that there can't be much money left. One thing seems to be obvious. Either Steorn is taking more investment input or the game has to end soon as there will be no cash left. Soon they will be back to less that 100e in the bank. I guess the only way the unwashed masses will know when the cash runs out, is when the forum servers go down because the power company cuts the mains.

Unless of course, they are powered by an Orbo, or stealing power from Datapage.

As for IN FLUX, it appears that Steorn is not the exhibition, just a sponsor. Looks like Seans promise of another demo is another 550bhp.

Could be someone pulling a leg too.

I've seen no evidence that Steorn is sponsoring the event. The list of sponsors doesn't include Steorn.

It appears as if the investors "screw the pooch" again.

Correction. I guess Steorn are sponsoring the event. Heh... it will prompt the believers to speculate that Steorn will unveil a working Orbo. This should be good for some more entertainment.

What a slap in the face. What reason on earth does Steorn have to be sponsoring such an event? The only way this makes sense is if this is some kind of payback for the massive cock-up in July. Steorn is obligated to sponsor the event in order to make up for embarrassing Kinetica.

Sean McCarthy isn't just a delusional fool. He's a complete jerk as well.

Steorns investors must be proud of Steorns management. No revenue but lots of marketing expenses. (sponsoring, charity, parties, non-demos, etc.)

I am more confident than ever that Stoern have what they claim because they act like they have it. That's all the evidence I need.

My name is Forrest Gump,
I'm a Steorn investor.

Don't worry Steorn is just doing the lighting. :-)

This is an odd one...

Perhaps Steorn "signed a paper" way back in better times, and now it is coming home to "roust"...

Perhaps they are "just starting" a "new" and hilarious "chapter" the the history of Steorn!

Stay tuned!! "Same Bat channel, same Bat time!!"

Will we see the Orbo being demoed at Earls Court?

"Will we see the Orbo being demoed at Earls Court?"

You won't see "Orbo" demo'd anywhere because it is as improbable that there is an Orbo as that Bush will resign tomorrow and become a Bhuddist monk.

On a different topic, I'd normally not bother to post this here but the comment feature on the original web isn't working.

Now discussion on the Steorn forum. which centers on a totally absurd set of claims not related to Steorn.

This article in Daily Mail who should know better (what the hell do they teach journalists these days?) is about another weird overunity scheme. This one supposedly uses a catalytic reaction to heat water producing TEN TIMES as much as energy out as the operator puts in. Yeah shoore. Not to mention, the diagram shows the "mains power" coupled directly into the house water supply. That's absolutely shocking!

Anyway, the best part is that this has been supposedly validated by a Jim Lyons who claims to be with the University of York. According to the article, "Jim Lyons, of the University of York, independently evaluated the system. He said: 'Let's be honest, people are generally pretty sceptical about this kind of thing. Our team was happy to take on the evaluation, even if to prove it didn't work.

'But this is a very efficient replacement for the traditional immersion heater. We have examined this interesting technology and when we got the rig operating, we were getting 150 to 200 per cent more energy out than we put in, without trying too hard. "

I looked up the illustrious Mr. Lyons.

Here at this link, Mr. Lyons describes his research area: "non-locality of Consciousness. The emerging new models describing an active Aether can begin to account for many phenomena such as Healing, Synchronicity, Psychometry etc, currently not even considered in mainstream Science. The open mindedness implicit in the SMN philosophy is what Science should truly be about."

And here, Mr. Lyons bio says he "member of the British Society of Dowsers, he undertakes research into the Geo- and Bio- Physics of Earth Energies. His special research topic is the mechanism of dowsing based on Quantum ideas in Consciousness Studies."

I almost lost my coffee over my keyboard in laughter when I read that.

So he specializes in dowsing and so-called paranormal phenomena. He seems to wallow in steaming bullcrap as a specialty! I'm sure he tested the overunity claims reliably "without trying very hard".

Mr. Lyons is listed in U of York's web pages as belonging to "External Relations Department (Research & Industry Office)". I wonder if they know what flaming woowoo he promotes.

This is so funny, it's almost convulsive. The story about the bilked investors in the original article is less humorous.

What amazes me is that in this modern world where methods of separating the bullcrap from reality are readily available, people are falling for obvious, nasty scams even more than they used to in the "good old days". Well, maybe not more but just as much.

Two more links from the Steorn forum about Mr. Lyons and the mysterious water heater-- it seems they started this in 2003!

U of York's piece on Lyons -- amazing they haven't realized what a twit he is yet.

The 2003 article.

At this time, Kinetica is not showing Steorn as a sponsor any more. Maybe it was error? See:

It's as if Steorn wrote the descriptions of the new Kinetica exhibit to tease us:

- transformation of nature
- movement of the spheres
- believes nothing is created, nothing is lost, everything is transformed
- simple elements in a continuum of time through motion
- which appears to have its own source of life
- sheds light on our radical shift to save energy

I know it's off topic but i'm not able to post on steorn forum but i do can read and i find the theory posted by the user MK still very interesting .Piggybacking if i got it right=hide a small magnet in/behind some FM so that it could overcome the sticky point when interact with a big one. nice one.

Well it is obvious isn't it? The new exhibit is the demo.

The water heating device is unbelievably embarrassing. I work at York and this guy definitely exists - and is quite senior. I just hope noone thinks it has anything to do with the real Physics and Chemistry departments at York which I can assure you it certainly doesn't.

I suggest that readers of this post mail the bosses of the Enterprise Organisation at York Uni (see the list of people at http://www.york.ac.uk/enterprise/eio/about.cfm?page=172) and ask why this guy is being employed in a no-doubt very well paid job when he is evidently a crank and bringing the university into serious disrepute.

I suspect it has something to do with the BA Science Festival being in York last week - it would have been a good chance to feed this bullsh&t story to a Daily Mail journalist (not the brightest of people). Laugh ... I nearly died ... a dowser .... in charge of technology evaluation ... for a device running on water ... you couldn't make it up!

Yawn...

Looks like this thread was an error...

They just forgot to "erase" Steorn from the first publicity print stuff...

But the Titanic still has its seekers, and so does Steorn... We are here for you :D

Like a Piranha!!! :D

Anonymous said...

Well.. that makes two errors.
How does Kinetica make a mistake about its sponsors, and how does Astream make an error about keeping those damn cameras on the net?

Anonymous said...

Vardan - got a source for that? I still can't see anything on their site for it, but Im sure we're all interested in proof either way :)

Anonymous said...

This made me chuckle a little.

Anonymous said...

Perhaps there is someone local to the London area that could simply call up Kenetica on the phone and ask ;-)

Tel: 020 7392 9674

Anonymous said...

why does anyone care if steorn sponsors this event or not?

It's not the first thing that they have sponsored. It's irrelevant.

As for the cameras, as long as you keep checking them regularly, they will keep running. It's free advertising for astream.

@freeenergytruth
(afraid for critical replies?)

Dear children,

Needing something very badly does not just make it happen. Perpetual free energy could be very useful, it just won't be. Ever.

Better focus on the options and alternatives that can work. Biofuels, windpower, solarpower and energystorage in hydrogen or supercapacitors.

As Lord Ron Oxburgh recently wrote, the price of oil will soon reach $150, and the alternatives will outcompete it. Think opportunity, not threat!

"This made me chuckle a little."

I could not respond directly since google will not allow my MIL network... Prolly all a bunch of commies there...

But this is the idea...

Ahh... Well...

"I" guess should say "something"...

"You" don't know science, "you" don't know power, "you" don't know energy, and "you" don't know the facts...

We all "wish" we could get unlimited energy from say a can of tuna... But like 100,000,000 people that know the drill say, it is just "NOT" going to happen...

You can blind yourself to the scientists and even hold your "ignorance" up as a "badge of courage"!!! But those folks that have spent their lives studying physics are no match for your "instant dumb stupidity"...

You seem to just "bait" this topic for some odd gain... Perhaps your are a free energy scam criminal...

We are "after" your types now :D

Ummm... so the whatever-it-is at Kinetica should be open today ... any word on whether there is anything interesting going on there?

Perhaps they should switch back to the original name of the exhibition:

@15-india-street:"Better focus on the options and alternatives that can work. Biofuels, windpower, solarpower and energystorage in hydrogen or supercapacitors"

People seem to be concerned about how to get a lot of energy.
You are forgetting one option : How much energy do I really need ?
Do I need a 2000kg 200BHP car when a 400kg 10bhp will do ? Do I need to heat a 300 square meter house when 50 m2 will be enough ? Do I need 50 spotlights in my garden ? Do I need a heated driveway and garage ?
Do I need to travel by air to the other side of the earth for a vacation in the sun ? Do I need to consume 500 litres of water a day when I could do as well with 10 litre a day? Do I need to eat all the fancy imported foods ? Do I need a heated gym to do my workout when I could do my workout outside.
Do I need a heated swimming pool ?
Do I need all the powerconsuming houshold apliances ?

How much garbage and CO2 am I responsible for ? How much natural resources do I consume ?
What are my minimum energy needs ?

Religion (mostly anti-Christian)
Politics (mostly anti-American)
Games (count to a million, last poster, joke of the day)
UFO's
...of and a smattering of pseudoscience

That's what the Steorn form is today.

If I was the webmaster of this forum I'd start to track other pseudoscientific OU sites. Several have poped up with forums of their own. I guess Steorn is used as a model.

What are my minimum energy needs ?

Good question, and I am looking forward to $20 per gallon gasoline to see what the answer is.

Personally, I think it will be the best thing that could happen to our wasteful society.

Anonymous said...

While I'm opposed to huge wasteful expenditures of any resources, depriving yourself of ordinary comforts is only going to delay the inevitable.

Malthus wasn't wrong, he was just early. Most people are religious and most religions encourage irresponsible over-reproduction. Eventually, that will choke the earth and end life as we know it. Space exploration, terraforming, all the similar interesting but extremely implausible suggestions are highly unlikely to be available in time to help. If humanity doesn't give up groundless beliefs and adopt practical logic and fact based reasoning along with reproductive control, the far future is extremely dismal.
