The "Technical Specifications" have been published...

From Steorn's Website:

Orbo is based upon the principle of time variant magneto-mechanical interactions. The core output from our Orbo technology is mechanical. This mechanical energy can be converted into electrical energy using standard generator technology either by integrating such technology directly with Orbo or by connecting the mechanical output from Orbo to the generation technology. The efficiency of such mechanical/electrical conversions is highly dependent on the components used and is also a function of size.

Orbo technology is subject to continuous development. This development is focused on improving the manufacturability of the technology, production costs and power density. Orbo was initially developed as using stop-start mechanisms (with a power density of 0.5 Watts per cm3), Steorn is currently finalizing the development of constant motion systems and a significant improvement in power density is anticipated.

Not exactly what I expected, but hey, this is their show, not mine.

Yep. This is a baaad move on their part. If this is their excuse for "detailed technical specifications" (a *very* general description of the technology, plus one measly statistic), it's going to give the skeptics a lot of ammo.

If this is how the skilled people of steorn view 'detailed', I have zero faith in their ability to find the door to the lab, never mind change the world.

I wonder what Steorn's Over Unity will become in the next few months....Unity....Not Quite Unity. Science is about specifics, consistency and precision.

Gee.. and I apologized earlier. The one to ST still stands but Sean, you are a weasel with your words. I think the term IS liar.

Sean has confirmed that no more info is coming.

"Nope thats the updates for now, as I was saying all along, this is an update for people who do not have time to get their info from the forum, other than some new stuff on the Jury, it is really a question of us trying to get the questions and answers about 'on the record' for the casual visitor."

And when confronted:

"lol, I am sorry that you are unimpressed - its probably going to ruin my day "

Do they not realize that this is a fairly big credibility blow? Engadget and Digg were all over this "update". If the content doesn't even match up to Steorn's standards, what do you think the skeptics will do with it?

Detailed technical specifications?

Another item on my Sean bullshit list.

Not surprising at all !
Its a lip service.

Its sad that steorn is doing next to nothing to make their story believable.

They are scared to death that someone will steal their tech. Well how can you steal a tech from tech specs only?

Don't be surprised if their public demo shows a black box placed behind many black curtains in a dark room, where no one is allowed to go within 20 feet of it.

Greed at its apex.....LOL.

Well, I was expecting a figure of 550 BHP in the "detailed technical specs" ;)

@vlad

Perhaps they are afraid that people will steal their technology.

Personally, I'm of the opinion that they don't have any free-energy technology.

A long read and a not too PC comment but use this as a checklist for Steorn. Post you score for Steorn here.

The date is interesting too.

Pretty much what I expected to be honest. It's not surprising from Seans previous track record that this is what passes for 'detailed technical specifications'.

And don't forget the checklist for dubious technologies:

hmmm...the Randi checklist got cropped. Let's see...

How about this?

The religious believers will claim this is more proof that Steorn have what they claim. Something like "if Steorn were a scam they'd have prepared the necessary technobable for the detailed update, the fact that they have gone back on their previous promise must mean that Sean is Ghandi reincarnate"... etc etc

Worth noting, before getting carried away with speculation about what it could power if it existed (which it doesn't!), Power figures can be misleading. Power=Work/Time.
Without any indication of the time period over which the energy is delivered a power figure is meaningless. I have seen a bench top, 1 petawatt (10^15 Watt) output laser that ran off a wall socket. It’s enormous power rating was due to the fact that a small amount of energy was delivered in a very, very small time interval.

From the "Latest informations and first public Orbo presentation" thread

KraFT:Shaun :)
can you please tell us what to expect at the end of March?
( "Detailed technical specifications will be made available at the end of Quarter 1 )
Some ppl expect magnet constellations
Tnx!
K

Sean : It will just be power density info and power to weight ratios - i.e. functional information.

Anyone see a reference to weight anywhere in the (Not So Detailed) Technical Specifications?

And Babcat, the public self Flagellation in making me ill. Your religious loyalty to Sean is making me ill.

"This mechanical energy can be converted into electrical energy using standard generator technology either by integrating such technology directly with Orbo or by connecting the mechanical output from Orbo to the generation technology."

So they have generated electricity? or is this another 'misconception'? maybe an 'extrapolation'.

Or maybe that was the 550bhp model.....

"The efficiency of such mechanical/electrical conversions is highly dependent on the components used and is also a function of size."

Must have tested the electrical generating efficency to make this claim. So they have generated electricity.....

"Steorn is currently finalizing the development of constant motion systems and a significant improvement in power density is anticipated."

So the electrical efficency tests must have been done on the start/stop model.

Steorn is doing a case study on viral marketing and web2.0
That's the most probable estimate. Scientists don't frustrate easy.. and one by one the voices are chiming in.
wrute this gem down" magneto-mechanical"

Any engineer who challenges Science after 3 years of work, then starts
Blithering about oh, we have made
PROGRESS(?).. and now have constant motion.
Then uses that excuse to delay data to the people who are supposed to validate his claim, is shooting himself in the foot.. but who knows, maybe he wears armored boots
This is the last time I look at steorn as having any credibility.

Sean posted this to the SPDC and requested that noone talk to him. Supposedly he's one of the scientists who tested the device and wouldn't go on record.

I don't think "viral marketing" allows for full-page ads in major publications and multiple TV interviews...

I think Lister just summed it up in this post,

-------------

So the greatly anticipated revelation was just for updating those few people that aren't on this forum 24/7. I don;t have any problem with that.

But given that that is the case what is the reason that what was going to be said was kept secret. Instead of just keeping it under wraps Sean could have simply told anyone asking
"I will be saying that the energy density is 0.5w/ccm and that it is a time variant bla bla bla..."

Instead it was made to seem like there would be something very interesting revealed. The stance was changed only after the 'deadline' expired. It is only then that Sean started toning down the great event and saying it was just a kind of short summary for those who do not spend a lot of time here.

I cannot undrstand why there could even exist a delay to say something that had already been said so many times. He just needed to say something - that doesn;t consume any time to prepare.

-------------------

Yup, Seans got some serious spinning to do over the next few days. Popcorn in hand, I await then next episode of "The Steorn Spin Zone"

This type of hype (announcement to come Q1) with no meat (delivers useless announcement) begins to place Sean in the same boat as Mark Goldes from MPI.

He is more careful than Mark, in that he does not specifiy what exactly will be delivered by certain dates, therby giving him some wiggle room. The demo coming up hasn't been fully detailed out, so there again we will see something that falls far short of anyone's expectations.

Entertaining none-the-less.

LOL....what a joke. Steorn has shown no one anything.
We don't even know if there is a jury or if they have any real scientists on it.
For Sean to have the balls to call todays news an update is unbelievable.
This is getting more and more to sound like a product that will never be released.

ROFLMAO
That is hilarious.

I Love this place. Thanks for having us ST, sucks if Steorn does turn out to be another hoax/fraud/joke/mistake/dog ate it/checks in the mail/of course i'll pull out in time.

My conspiracy theory: Sean's target is an investor who wants to gain control over the Steorns IP. The goal is a complete buyout. That's the reason why Sean refuses investments and pretends to make the technology available to everyone who is interested. But it's just a theory.

Anonymous said...

(with a power density of 0.5 Watts per cm3)

OK maybe this is a rounded off figure but does this just seem like an odd number to present? Science does not often deal with nice round convienient numbers. An aproximation? Hmmmmmm...

Anonymous said...

Why not release who the scientist working on it are?

If this was a real planet changing science break through, wouldn't you be scared of a jihad blowing Ireland off the map?

thinka bout it something like this would ruin the earths economics, yet it isn't released to the public ASAP. If it is real we will never know.

We need to reread the following:

http://www.phact.org/e/con_man.htm

Does it fit with what Steorn and Sean is doing ?

Anonymous said...

It's obviously a load of old cobblers.....Too much time has elapsed since the 'idea' appeared.
Any reputable company with a valid claim of this magnitude would not be touting the scientific community for 'jury members'
It must be part of some statistical analysis project!!!!!

Much enjoyed your interview with Sean.

As some of your readers are aware, we are another firm developing parallel technology. However, our work includes both solid-state and rotary devices.
