4 Cameras, Nice Flash Intro

matdes posted this link in the forum:

http://www.steorn.com/orbo/demo/demo.html
It contains a nice little flash introduction to the streaming video, which will be going live here soon:

Note that other links related to the demo are still not working:

My look at the main steorn web site home page says that the demo will start at 6 PM "Eastern Time". Does London have Eastern Time or are they in reference to the US "Eastern Standard Time" zone? Anyone know for sure?

Thats Eastern Standard Time unfortunately... 6 more hours before we see anything.

Actually something already can be seen here:

http://www.astream.com/live/steorn/camera4.html

I'm not sure quite what it is and it's a bit blurry.

so...they are starting the thing at 11PM London time?

bc said...

I don't know why they put "Eastern Time", it's 6pm BST (British Summer Time i.e. UTC+1). That's 1pm EST.

maryyugo. Aah! yugo. The cutting edge of serbo cration technology!
The blurry thing you see on camera 4 is stock footage of the London Eye. I'ts about 4 miles from Kinetica.

@maryugo

On the left of the pic is the London Eye - a large wheel that lifts weights - but not OU ;)

Btw, this blog is on PDT.

Another mistake: on that web cam page it says "Sign up for the results
and BE BE the first to receive the results of the jury-led validation"

I'll BE BE your perpetual motion machine valentine!

Sigh! You'd think at least one of Steorn's employees would have taken 30 seconds to look at the web cam page before they had put it up.

How convenient is it that the only "camera" link that actually works is the one that is apparently the farthest from the actual device (according to that little map thing int he corner)...?

Anonymous said...

Sigh, anyone know what codec they are using? I can't see it from my mac.. :(

Anonymous said...

When I click on properties, I get:

Video Codec: Windows Media Video 9 Advanced Profile

Hope that helps-- maybe there's a Mac version or borrow a WinXP or Vista laptop?

You'll need Internet explorer to view it. Its using windows media player (.asx format) to stream the video.
Even Firefox won't work here.

Right now they are showing a test feed, and she says the same things again and again.....looped I guess (hint hint ;-))

That was a cock-up by Steorn. They should have had 12 quality videos ready to go on YouTube in the event of that happening, because it was predictable it would.

The press has just whet readers interest enough to sit down at a internet connection or stay at work a while longer and then nothing happens. Hardly a good advert for people yet to be convinced is it?

Stupid. Poor risk management.

Go to Google News and enter "Steorn." There are only 16 total stories. Too bad they didn't invite Paris Hilton.

If today was press day it didn't make much of an impact, perhaps tomorrow is the big day?

No sign of streaming video or Dr Mike, my marzipan hat is safe for the moment ;)

Steorn home page --> "View the online demonstration here at 6pm Eastern Time (ET)"
That's several more hours. Hence no video.

Anonymous said...

The demo goes live at 23:00GMT (18:00EST)

What you can see on Camera 4 is a TEST STREAM.

Well, as a science journalist I subscribed twice (late 2006 & a few weeks ago) to the "press area" on Steorn's website in order to receive the "press pack" and be informed of the demo details. I never received any confirmation email or whatsoever... Web amateurism?
This is very strange also that there's no press release on their website today - supposedly a press day... Media amateurism?
Having said that, I quite like FET's hypothesis: "Could the whole purpose of this exercise in Free Energy be something as simple as attempting to scale up online security? Could Steorn have raised 14 million euros over the past three years to develop a product that can monitor online contractual agreements or something along those lines?"

Wasn't Dr.Mike supposed to veiw this thing before the press?

What happened to the flash video? Anyone capture it?

Why would anyone state an opening time of 6:00pm ET (new york) for a London demo?

Anonymous said...

my guess is that the video will not show up until 24:00 Londom Time.

They said it will be on display from the 5th till the 12th.

+++++++++++

I guess it could be, but I find it hard to believe the Steorn people are callous enough to stage the deception.

11pm London. Great timing!!! Europe is ready to go to bed before a day's work, people living on East Coast are travelling back from work and Californians are trying to get out early and beat the freeway traffic.

LOL! It's actually worse than that!
It's 4th of July Holiday in the USA! Everyone is outside, at a picnic, and then will spend all evening and night at fireworks displays and shooting fireworks.

I will never understand people.

What difference does it make when they release the information? Do you really think if (and it's the biggest "if" in a long time)-- do you really think if Orbo does as advertised that everyone won't know it in a very short time?

It didn't take very long for people to know when the A-bomb was dropped for the first time. If Orbo is real, it won't take much longer.

Of course, it is exceedingly unlikely to be real!

I have a "hearsay" report from a friend that says that, so far, as of midafternoon today London time, Dr. Mike has not been allowed to see anything, much less touch it. I can't prove it and I can't say who said it so take it with a grain of salt. Still, nobody has heard from Mike. Maybe something he disagreed with ate him? (I hope not)

something fishy about orbo. Dude said they were working with some windturbines and just happened to take them appart and start playing with the arrangements of magnets. These things are usually fixed in place with glue or resin. you dont just take them apart and play with them. You have to design and manufacture new parts before trying anything. Thats how he says they started it and that sounds like rubbish

The video stream and web page appear to have gone. The Kinetica web page now says the video stream will start at 11am tomorrow.

I have to take back what I said about Steorn having "slick marketing!" ;)

Anonymous said...

So, where my free energy at?

Anonymous said...

unbef%$kinglievable!

Anonymous said...

About the wind turbine magnets;

You are right. Re-arranging magnets inside a wind turbine is nothing trivial. That part has never made sense.

Steorn is certainly keeping to form. They can't tell time, seen to have a huge problem with deciphering a calendar, and what happened to Mike?

How is it that people can have unshakable faith in people that appear to have missed every mark that they have SET FOR THEMSELVES!

Still hoping, but come on Steorn, get it together!

Hi BC.

I couldn't find that Kinetica page. All I could find was something that says that the exhibit runs from tomorrow but that the webcam starts "July 5". July 5 is almost over in England.

Can you provide a link?

Whatever else Orbo is, he ain't punctual.

bc said...

@mary

I think you have the right page, but July 5 is tomorrow (Thursday) over here...Steorn@Kinetica

Apologies if I mislead anyone about the time, I was just going by what Steorn told the press. "6pm today" usually means 6pm local time.

Just been reading James Randi on MEG, very very funny!

Hi, Jason Bradbury here. I just got off the phone to the Steorn PR and she told me the demo is down for today. I was actually on the train platform, racing to London in order to make sense of last night's failed webcast when she told me.

£160 wasted and a lot of disappoinment later and all I can tell you is that Steorn think its the heat from inside the museum that's causing the unit to malfunction.

My question is.. did it work in the venue yesterday at all... does anyone know.

Great site by the way and fascinating comments. Please check out my blog http://www.jasonbradbury.com where I've been posting on Orbo.

Best
